THIS was in my local paper. THIS happened in my town. This is the article and buzz about it. See whatcha think.

I am writing to let you know that the letter from Dr. Morrissey's attorney printed in the Aug. 8 issue is full of lies.

I took my daughter to see Dr. Morrissey on Feb. 27 for an ear infection. At that time there were no letters posted in the office or waiting room about him leaving the practice. As I left Dr. Morrissey, he asked me to make a follow up appointment for the next week to check my daughter's ears. I made the appointment for March 3.

On March 1, I was contacted by Dr. Morrissey's office and was informed that he would be out all week and to call back on March 8 to reschedule. While in Savannah on March 8, I contacted Dr. Morrissey's office to reschedule the appointment and was told that Dr. Morrissey was no longer working there and that he would be working at Memorial full time.

My sister-in-law and I were in complete shock that he left the practice without letting anyone know.

My sister-in-law then called the doctor's office back and asked what we needed to do to get our children's records. She was told to come in and sign for them. By the end of that week, my sister-in-law went into Dr. Morrissey's office and signed for her children's records and that is when we received the letter backdated stating that Dr. Morrissey was no longer seeing patients and that we had until the end of March to get our records.

On March 31, I went and signed for my children's records and was informed it would take two weeks for my doctor to receive the records. To this day, I do not have my children's records.

I am really disappointed that the Dr. Morrissey has treated us this way. I really need my children's records and Dr. Morrissey should have to give them to me. I should not have to pay for my children's records when he up and left us without notice and is keeping our records hostage
<font size="4" face="Tempus Sans ITC, Tahoma">THEN, another woman replied to this article in the newsaper:
I AM VERY UPSET ABOUT THIS HOLD THING. DR. MORRISSEY'S OFFICE JUST LIED & LIED TO US. I FILL OUT THE SHEET REQUESTING FOR MY KIDS RECORD AND HAVEN'T RECEIVED THEM YET. IT MAKES YOU WONDER IF THIS IS A SCAM. I WONDER IF DR. MORRISSEY IS AWARE OF EVERYTHING THAT HAS BEEN GOING ON. HE NEEDS TO STEP AND CLEAR THIS MESS. WE REALLY DO NEED OUR KIDS RECORDS. I GUESS WE MAY HAVE TO TAKE LEGAL ACTION. THESE RECORDS ARE VERY IMPORTANT. I HEAR THE WTOC BROADCAST BUT I'M AFRAID TO SEND MY MONEY TO THEM FOR THE SIMPLE REASON THAT THEY LIED FROM THE START. PEOPLE SENT MONEY BEFORE & NO RECORDS WAS RELEASED. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS SITUATION. I AM VERY UPSET & I WON'T STOP UNTIL SOMETHING IS DONE. I WILL NOT TAKE THIS LYING DOWN BECAUSE IT'S NOT RIGHT. DID ANYONE RECEIVE RECORDS AT ALL?
<font size="4" face="Tempus Sans ITC, Tahoma">AND NO, it wasn't me who replied. Just because I like to use caps to express the importance, I'm not gonna make a whole fucking reply in caps. DUH! *L

well i wonder if he was in private practice because it s eems to me...records at an established medical center/clinic....

wouldn't be kept in a way discretionary to the Dr.....

hmmm... hmm leaving with no notice isn't an ethical issue it's an integrity issue....

but give the people their records so they can quit whining!

i think this is a bit absurd.

its ridiculous for a person (much less a parent)
to wait until something like this happens before
they consider getting copies of official records.

while i realize that we aren't talking about
copies, its against the institution for a patient
(or parent thereof) to have the 'official' records
in their possession (at least this is to my
    knowledge).

i'm also assuming this article is recent....
which means that they have been having these
issues since march... which is bad on their
part. sending a letter to the paper is one thing,
but it seems as if these people have done nothing
more than contacting the dr.s office and then
resorting to a letter to the paper.

while i agree that this incident is a bigger
reflection on the doctor's reputation... its
clearly obvious that it will take a greater
*influence* to get the records... ie. court order.

however, i've moved all over the place... and
i've never had a problem like this. sure, it
takes ages to get official transcripts of
particular records... but i don't see why these
people... these parents... are sitting on
their ass, complaining to the newspaper.

    two words: class action?

not necessary... but probably to the point at this time.

i would have gone above his head...

even regardless of a private practice... the
doctor MUST be affiliated with some sort of
    medical association...

that's the route i would have taken.
